"House burping," or the German tradition of lüften, involves opening all windows and doors for 5–10 minutes daily to rapidly replace stale, humid indoor air with fresh air. This practice improves air quality, reduces mold-causing moisture, and helps eliminate odors without letting the furniture get cold. It is most effective in winter, after cooking, or showering.

How to "Burp" Your House
Time it right: Aim for 5–10 minutes, especially in winter, to avoid wasting energy on heating.

Create a draft: Open windows on opposite sides of the house to create a cross-breeze.
Turn down the heat: Temporarily lower your thermostat to avoid losing excessive heat.
Daily routine: Do this at least once a day to remove moisture from breathing, cooking, and showering.

Benefits of House Burping
Improves Air Quality: It clears out indoor pollutants and, contrary to popular belief, outdoor air is often cleaner.

Prevents Mold: By reducing humidity, you prevent mold and mildew growth.
Better Heat Efficiency: Dry, fresh air is actually easier to heat than humid, stale air.
Healthier Environment: It releases stagnant, oxygen-depleted air, which can improve overall well-being.
